EMDR Therapy in Costa Mesa Serving
Orange County
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy designed to help people process and heal from traumatic or distressing experiences. As an EMDR Certified therapist, I use EMDR to help clients reduce the emotional impact of difficult memories and develop healthier emotional patterns.
EMDR therapy is available in person in Costa Mesa and through secure Telehealth for clients throughout California and Oregon.
What Is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR therapy helps the brain process unresolved experiences that continue to affect emotions, relationships, and daily life. When difficult experiences are not fully processed, they can remain stored in the nervous system and influence how we respond to stress, relationships, and self-perception.
Through guided bilateral stimulation and structured therapeutic processing, EMDR allows the brain to reprocess these memories in a way that reduces emotional distress and supports healthier emotional responses.
Many clients experience relief, increased emotional clarity, and a greater sense of freedom after processing memories that once felt overwhelming.
How EMDR Therapy Works
EMDR therapy helps the brain process experiences that were not fully integrated at the time they occurred. During EMDR sessions, bilateral stimulation such as guided eye movements is used while the client focuses on a memory or emotional experience. This process allows the brain to reprocess the memory in a way that reduces emotional distress and supports healthier emotional responses.
Over time, clients often notice that memories that once felt overwhelming begin to feel more manageable and less emotionally charged.
EMDR therapy is often integrated into Individual Therapy and can be especially helpful for individuals experiencing anxiety, trauma, or recurring emotional patterns.

What to Expect in EMDR Therapy
EMDR therapy typically begins with an initial phase of understanding your history, identifying goals for therapy, and developing tools that help you feel safe and grounded during the process. Once preparation is complete, EMDR processing begins.
Sessions involve focusing on specific memories or emotional experiences while engaging in bilateral stimulation. The process is guided carefully so that clients can move through memories in a safe and supportive way.
Each person’s pace is different, and therapy moves forward in a way that feels manageable and collaborative.
Who EMDR Therapy Is For
EMDR therapy can be helpful for individuals who feel stuck in emotional patterns, recurring relationship challenges, or distress connected to past experiences. Many clients seek EMDR when they notice that insight alone has not fully shifted how they feel or respond emotionally.
EMDR therapy can support individuals who want to understand and heal the deeper roots of emotional and relational patterns.
